Mr Weatherall said the organisers had some funds remaining in the kitty after the not-for-profit gala event this year and decided to spent the money on a ''heavy duty'' gift for the community to use in the domain.
"We wanted to leave something in the space, that we use on an annual basis, in appreciation of the support the community gives us.''
The table was given to the Dunedin City Council and it was installed near the playground in the domain last week.
The next gala on January 25 next year would be the 19th time the event had been held, Mr Weatherall said.
