The 86-year-old's story prompted a huge outpouring of support and offers of help from Otago Daily Times readers last month.
He had been discharged from hospital with personal care assistance, but no domestic assistance.
Yesterday, he said he was ''good as gold'', and his small Dunedin unit was neat and tidy when the ODT visited.
Mr Rodger now has four hours of domestic home help a week, split over four days.
The help was to be provided indefinitely.
He still faced a ''long battle'' to recover from the heart attack he had in May, and he still got short of breath sometimes.
