A joint district health board committee meeting yesterday was "real hard yakka", which tried his patience a bit, chairman Errol Millar said.
It was difficult running a meeting by video conference from a hot room in Invercargill. Concerns were raised about echoing, which made voices hard to hear and, at the end of the three-hour public section of the meeting, Mr Millar said he was almost deaf from the echoes. It was so hot in the room they were all sweating, he said.
The committee meetings are held alternately in Dunedin and Invercargill, with video-conferencing to the city not hosting the meeting. Yesterday, there was also a link to member Fiona McArthur in Queenstown.
A further difficulty at yesterday's meeting was relaying information from a Powerpoint presentation on mental health planning. Those in Dunedin could not see this, and the presentation had to be delayed so the information could be emailed and copied for them. Mr Millar said he would look into ways of improving the situation.
