HR manager NZIM runner-up

Otago Polytechnic's human resources general manager, Matt Carter, has finished runner-up at the national final to find New Zealand's top young executive.

Mr Carter is the New Zealand Institute of Management's top executive for the southern region and was in the running for the top prize at the NZIM's annual awards ceremony in Auckland last month.

He finished behind Hamish McBeath, a general manager at the Fletcher Building division of Pacific Coilcoaters, who was representing the northern region.

Mr Carter (34) was appointed as a service manager to the Otago Polytechnic's human resources department in 2006.

He progressed to general manager and now heads the polytechnic's departments of human resources and student services.
