Industrial action by Pact staff likely over wage offer

After meetings this week, it is not clear when proposed industrial action by Pact staff will begin, as legal clarification is sought on some issues.

Service and Food Workers Union members in Dunedin and the West Coast, and Public Service Service Association members in Invercargill had voted earlier to endorse action over a 1% pay offer.

It was envisaged it would start with a paperwork ban and eventually move to full-scale industrial action in the Pact's mental health service if necessary.

However, no announcement has yet been made on the timing of any action.

Pact director of corporate services Paul Chamberlain has described any action as fruitless, as the organisation was not able to pay more, having offered to pass on the 1.04% funding increase it had received until the end of June.
