Police are investigating an incident with ''sinister overtones'' after a man allegedly performed an indecent act in front of a woman, and later followed her in a car.
The incident occurred just after 10pm on Tuesday when the woman, who was walking her dog along Highgate near the corner of Sheen St, was confronted by the man who was committing an indecency.
Acting Senior Sergeant Matt Scoles said the woman fled, but the man got into a car and followed her home. He was described as a tall Maori or a Pacific Islander, of stocky build. His vehicle was described as a white sedan, and the victim recalled seeing the same vehicle the previous night while she was out walking.
The incident had ''sinister overtones'', Acting Snr Sgt Scoles said and he appealed for any witnesses to contact police.
