Kmart may - or may not - reopen in Dunedin this weekend.

A Dunedin app yesterday reported a spokesman from Kmart New Zealand said the estimated reopening date for the store was this Saturday.

But a spokeswoman from Kmart corporate affairs in Australia said last night the company had not issued that information.

‘‘At this time, we do not have any further information to share since our last statement.’’

She did not supply the most recent statement but last month the Otago Daily Times reported the company had extended the closure of its Dunedin shop as upgrades were needed.

Several times Kmart has indicated on its website it planned to reopen on a certain date, only to change those details the night before the scheduled reopening.

Last night its website said the Dunedin store was scheduled to open at 8am on Saturday.

We are the South's eyes and ears in crucial council meetings, at court hearings, on the sidelines of sporting events and on the frontline of breaking news.

As our region faces uncharted waters in the wake of a global pandemic, Otago Daily Times continues to bring you local stories that matter.

We employ local journalists and photographers to tell your stories, as other outlets cut local coverage in favour of stories told out of Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
