Lightning strikes hit Dunedin

Dunedin was hit by wild weather this afternoon with thunder, lightning and hail sweeping acrooss the city.

MetService meterologist Rob Kerr said thunder and lightning moved across coastal Otago in waves and between 4pm and 4.30pm 10 to 20 lightning strikes were recorded over Dunedin.

Large hail stones covered streets turning them white including the Northern motorway going out of the city today.

The storms were expected to clear this evening with more showers and a cold southwesterly with a high of 12 degrees predicted tomorrow.
