Dunedin police are disappointed with the results of a controlled purchase operation in the city at the weekend, after four licensed premises served alcohol to minors.
Alcohol harm reduction officer Acting Sergeant Ian Paulin said under-age volunteers working with police were sold alcohol at one suburban premises and three central city bars.
There was no trickery or attempt to deceive and volunteers were told not to carry identification, and tell the truth about their age, he said.
Police targeted mainly on-licence premises in the latest phase of a year-long operation, he said.
So far in 2011, six premises had sold alcohol to minors during controlled purchase operations.
The person who sold the liquor would be charged with selling alcohol to a minor.
Police would seek to suspend, through the Liquor Licensing Agency, the duty manager of any premises caught selling alcohol to a minor and the premises' on-licence, Acting Sgt Paulin said.
