Little word on meeting

The Chamber of Commerce has reported a "positive" meeting with the Dunedin City Council to discuss the council's response to last month's snowfall, but chamber chief executive John Christie refused to discuss what happened at the meeting until the two organisations develop a joint press release today.

The chamber took the council to task in its July newsletter over the council's response to last month's snowfall, claiming roads remained closed longer than expected, and businesses faced financial loss.

Mr Christie asked for clarification on contractors' standards of performance, and Dunedin Mayor Peter Chin responded by calling a meeting last night of relevant members of staff and contractors.

Mr Christie said he could not speak further on the issue until today "out of courtesy" to the mayor.
