Man stabbed outside bar

The person who stabbed a man outside a Port Chalmers bar early yesterday remains at large.

A 37-year-old man was taken to Dunedin Hospital by a friend after he was stabbed several times outside Chicks Hotel, shortly after midnight.

Detective Sergeant Rob Hanna said the man received several stab wounds, including one to his hand.

While the injuries were not life-threatening, "we consider it serious.

"It is concerning that people would use a knife during any altercation".

The man was treated at hospital and discharged yesterday.

Two people who may have witnessed the fight and went to the victim's assistance were asked to contact police.

"We haven't identified them at this stage, but we are seeking these two people," Det Sgt Hanna said.

The alleged offender was known to the victim, and the pair are believed to have spoken to each other at the Upper Hutt Posse gig, before going outside.

The object used in the stabbing has not been recovered.

There was no reason for the public to be concerned and police were "following a positive line of inquiry".
