A colossal 2000-page book by a University of Otago lecturer is one of the largest first edition academic books to be published in New Zealand, the book's publisher says.
Senior law lecturer Barry Allan said he spent five years working on The Law of Secured Credit; however, he had no idea the book would end up as big as it did.
"It wasn't until I saw the word count, which is over 1 million, that I realised it was going to be pretty big.''
The book discusses the realities of credit borrowing and loaning for both consumers and businesses.
"Credit is an important area because it is something which everyone is exposed to.
"I can't think of many people who get through life without dealing with credit.''
The majority of the book focuses on the interaction between law and property, and the use of property as collateral.
He did not have any immediate plans to write another gargantuan book, but he was in discussions with his publisher about a new text on commercial law.
"I don't think that will be a solo work, though.''
