Mr Brockie, who is secretary of the Otago branch, said the club had about 1700 models on display at the Community Gallery.
The focus of the showcase was V8 supercars as well as commercial and agricultural vehicles.
The theme changed annually to try to attract newcomers who were interested in specific types of vehicle.
"The model fans are coming anyway," he said.
Each person found different types of models interesting so the showcase was set up to accommodate all tastes, he said.
Visitors could enter a competition to win an 1:18 scale 2005 Opal Astra, he said.
The show runs until August 14.
