A mufti day at Abbotsford School last week raised almost $1000 to support the family of cancer-stricken pupil Isaac Stocker.

Just after Christmas last year, Isaac (6) was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma.

Shortly afterwards, his parents Tamsyn Park and Sean Stocker travelled to Christchurch for Isaac's treatment, staying at the city's Ronald McDonald House.

The family had since returned to Dunedin to continue chemotherapy but will periodically return to Christchurch for tests and scans.

His aunt, Shannon Price, created a Givealittle page to support the family as they take time off work to travel to Christchurch for Isaac's treatment.

The mufti day at Abbotsford School on Thursday raised $900 for the page, part of more than $5000 donated to support the family.

Isaac's teacher Kris McLennan said the pupil was sorely missed by the year 2 class, who hoped he would return soon.

Mrs McLennan said her pupils had adopted a stuffed toy cat to hold Isaac's place until he gets better.

"Isaac's cat comes instead.''

Hodgkin lymphoma is a relatively rare cancer of the lymphatic system (part of the immune system), affecting about 75 New Zealanders each year.

According to Leukaemia and Blood Cancer New Zealand, even advanced stage Hodgkin lymphoma can be treated successfully and cured in a high proportion of patients.
