Museum reports leaks

Several leaks have "opened up'' at the Otago Museum after a recent run of wet weather.

Some of the leaks were "old friends'' but a couple of new leaks had appeared, a museum report said.

The leaks were being fixed and windows in the museum staff areas had required some attention, the report, by museum director Dr Ian Griffin, said.

Some glass in the staff room conservatory had been replaced, with double glazing, to fix leaking issues.

Further double glazing would soon be done to improve energy efficiency and reduce noise, he said.

● Membership of the Friends of the Otago Museum is continuing to grow and the museum support group now has 133 members, another recent report noted.

A Friends representative on the Otago Museum Trust Board, Julie Pearse, said her three-year term as Friends president was ending this month and

although the group's membership was continuing to grow, finding people to serve on the group's governing council was "not easy''.

The group's council had been working on several projects over the past four to six months, including a pilot oral history project, and interviews would be undertaken with a University of Otago historian, Gordon Parsonson.

After developing a "template'', it was hoped to undertake further such projects in future, she said.
