The High Court has allowed continued suppression for a man charged with indecent assault.
After a hearing in Dunedin today, Justice Whata granted an appeal by a man in his 60s against a district court judge's refusal to continue an interim order suppressing the man's identity.
Justice Whata said the consequences of publication when the case was still in the pre-trial stage would be disproportionate to the seriousness of the actual offending.
He made an order for ongoing suppression of the man's name, occupation, and former occupations, or anything likely to lead to his identity or cast speculation on him or any other person of a similar class or type.
