The appointment of Paul McIntyre as the next editor of the Otago Daily Times was announced yesterday by the chief executive of Allied Press, Grant McKenzie.
Current editor Barry Stewart has announced his retirement and will stay in the role until late May, 2023.
"We are delighted to have someone of Mr McIntyre’s calibre joining our strong editorial team in Dunedin and across the South Island," Mr McKenzie said.
Sir Julian Smith, chairman Allied Press, added Mr McIntyre would continue the tradition of maintaining outstanding news coverage across the South Island and also those issues that matter to the people of the South.
Mr McIntyre, who will be the 16th editor in the 162-year history of the publication, is delighted to be joining the ODT and the wider Allied Press network of community papers.
"It will be a privilege to lead a dedicated team of editorial staff across the South," he said.
Mr McIntyre has an impressive background in journalism, previously working at RNZ, Nelson Mail and The Press.
