A conference focusing on how Christians should respond to a strident "New Atheism" movement will be held at the University of Otago next week.
The "New Atheists", whose prominent figures include scientist Prof Richard Dawkins, claim believers in "the god hypothesis" should be actively countered.
The two-day conference at St Margaret's College begins next Friday. Titled "The New Atheism - A Christian Response", the event is being jointly organised by the university and Cambridge University's Faraday Institute for Science and Religion.
Speakers include Otago University philosopher Prof Peter Anstey, Otago theology and religion department head Prof Murray Rae, Faraday Institute director Dr Denis Alexander, and institute associate director Prof Robert White.
