New car on the cards for Powerball winners

Dunedin's latest Powerball winning couple are eyeing up a new car and other purchases are in consideration.

The couple, who asked to remain anonymous, have desposited their $13.3 million prize in the bank although remain in "disbelief".

"It still feels so unreal, I haven't slept in days," the winner said.

"Every Sunday morning, I make a cup of coffee and check my ticket.

"I honestly couldn't believe it when I saw we had six numbers and the Powerball on one line. I checked the ticket about 10 times.

"Then my husband came into the kitchen, so I thought I'd play a bit of a trick on him. Every Sunday morning he would say to me, 'did we win?' and I would say something like 'Yes! We got a bonus line of Strike'.

"So this time I handed him the ticket with all the numbers circled and said 'what do you think this means?'. Of course he thought I was having him on."

The couple quickly headed into a store to check their ticket, confirming their win.

"The store was so lovely - they were genuinely thrilled for us and gave us a bottle of bubbly to celebrate."

Along with the bubbly, the couple celebrated with a traditional Kiwi meal of fish n' chips for dinner that night.

Alongside a new car, they are considering buying a new house, while also going on a summer holiday around the country.

The ticket was sold at South Dunedin Night n Day and was the third Lotto First Division-winning ticket bought from the store in the past four months.

It was second major Powerball prize to be won in Dunedin this year, with a ticket sold at Pak N Save also winning $13.3 million when a $40 million jackpot was split three ways.
