Dunedin Mayor Dave Cull (centre) welcomed nine new citizens at what he called "a special and significant ceremony" in the Glenroy Auditorium this week.
The new citizens are (from left) James Wellington (Australia), Vivienne Tubbs (China), Yan Yan (China), Antje Lubcke (Germany), Linda Brown (Britain), Alan Preston (Britain), Benjamin Kingsley-Holmes (Britain, partially obscured) and Lea and Craig Werner (United States).
New Zealand was a young country with a unique and diverse mixture of cultures and customs, Mr Cull said.
"You should be proud New Zealand has chosen you as new citizens and we are proud you've chosen Dunedin to be your new home."
The new citizens were presented with a New Zealand native plant "to symbolise the putting down of roots in your new country", Mr Cull said.
