Staff and pupils are beginning to gain some perspective on what Taieri College's new administration and teaching blocks will look like.
Principal David Hunter said all the concrete foundations had been poured and a lot of the framing was now up.
He said the school's new $4.1million state-of-the-art reception area, staff room, administration offices, library, information centre, and eight new classrooms (which included science laboratories) were on track and starting to take shape.
''We're slowly starting to get a picture of what it's going to look like.
''We're getting a perspective of the space between buildings and we've certainly got an idea of the scale of the project now.''
Roofing of the structure would come next, and excitement was growing among staff and pupils, he said.
''Once the roofing is on, the subcontractors can move in and start working on the inside.''
The new 1600sq m facility will replace A Block, which was built in the late 1930s and was demolished in December last year.
The original school building became the administration block and had been added to over time, which turned it into a ''real rabbit warren'', he said.
Although construction had proven to be a little disruptive to school operations, everyone at the school was working through that because there was a clear reward at the end, he said.
It was hoped the development would be completed about October or November.
The school is using the school hall as an open plan administration office temporarily, and the school has been renting rooms at the Mosgiel Abilities Centre in Green St for use as classrooms.
