A large seascape by Dunedin artist Simon Kaan is featured in a semi-transparent glass facade for a new hotel, "Ebb-Dunedin", in Filleul St.

Developed through Dunedin family property investment group CL Hotels, Ebb-Dunedin would be ready to welcome guests by early next year, CL Hotels development manager Dylan Cazemier said.

The exterior was complete and interior work was expected to be finished by the end of the year.

The boutique hotel would provide guests with "relaxed luxury", Mr Cazemier said.

He was delighted with the artwork.

Waka shapes are a motif in Kaan’s art and they also feature on the hotel frontage.

Kaan graduated from Otago Polytechnic School of Art in 1993 with a diploma of fine arts in printmaking (Hons).

Our journalists are your neighbours

We are the South's eyes and ears in crucial council meetings, at court hearings, on the sidelines of sporting events and on the frontline of breaking news.

As our region faces uncharted waters in the wake of a global pandemic, Otago Daily Times continues to bring you local stories that matter.

We employ local journalists and photographers to tell your stories, as other outlets cut local coverage in favour of stories told out of Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.

You can help us continue to bring you local news you can trust by becoming a supporter.
