Following an extensive investigation into the unexplained death of a man in Palmerston, police have decided not to lay charges.

A police spokeswoman said police were called to a Mull St address about 12.15am on April 29 last year after a man was found dead.

At the time, a neighbour who was not home at the time of the incident, said loud parties were often held at the house.

The police spokeswoman yesterday told the Otago Daily Times an extensive investigation had taken place, and following independent legal advice, police would not be taking further action in relation to the death.

She said the matter had now been referred to the coroner.

"Police are continuing to ensure the family of the deceased remain supported."
