Officers catch up with fleeing driver

A boozed-up driver led officers on a foot chase in South Dunedin last night, police say.

The chase did not end well for the 27-year-old Dunedin man, who was arrested for drink-driving.

Senior Sergeant Anthony Bond, of Dunedin, said police received a report of a car driving in a dangerous manner in Midland and Timaru Sts about 5.25pm yesterday.

They located the vehicle and signalled for it to stop. It did, but the driver got out and ran off,  he said.

‘‘The athletic police officers managed to keep up with him and catch him.’’

The man, a disqualified driver, was under the influence of alcohol and recorded a breath alcohol level of 1002mcg, Snr Sgt Bond said.

His car was impounded for 28 days and he would appear in court facing charges of driving while disqualified, drink-driving and failing to remain when stopped by police.
