One person was taken to hospital after a car crashed through a barrier and hit a tree in Dunedin's Town Belt yesterday morning.

A police spokesman said they were called to the crash at 9am after the car left the road and ended up in the Town Belt between Queens Dr and Newington Ave.

A photographer at the scene said one woman was removed from the car using a stokes basket and was taken away by ambulance.

A St John spokeswoman said one person was taken to Dunedin Hospital with moderate injuries.

Another occupant was uninjured.
