A person is seriously injured after a crash on Dunedin’s southern motorway overnight.

Police said the single-vehicle crash occurred near Mornington Rd and was reported just after 1.10am.

One person sustained serious injuries.

The motorway is closed northbound and expected to remain so for several hours.

Detours are in place and motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible.
