Pizza Hut closure not due to inquiry

The temporary closure of a South Dunedin Pizza Hut for "urgent maintenance" is not related to an ongoing investigation into food safety, Restaurant Brands says.

A sign posted on the restaurant's door yesterday advised customers of the temporary closure and said it would reopen today.

Restaurant Brands marketing general manager Geraldine Oldham said the closure followed a "routine audit" which had found a piece of equipment in need of replacement.

"This closure is not a result of MPI's investigation."

Late last month, the ODT reported three employees had resigned from Dunedin's two Pizza Hut stores because of alleged food safety issues.

A subsequent inspection by Ministry for Primary Industries staff had found no evidence of any critical food safety risks, but an investigation was ongoing.

An MPI spokeswoman also confirmed yesterday the temporary closure was "not related to our investigation, which is continuing".
