Dunedin police are concerned for the wellbeing of an intellectually disabled man, who was seriously injured during an assault at Heff's Hotel in South Dunedin but does not appear to have sought medical attention.
Senior Sergeant Steve Aitken, of Dunedin, said an altercation broke out at the hotel about midnight on Saturday and witnesses said the victim received an injury to his eye socket.
However, both the victim and the suspect disappeared before police arrived.
Snr Sgt Aitken said the victim was described as being in his 20s with shortish red hair.
"He may be called Richard, and he may be in supported accommodation."
He asked anyone who knew the victim, or who witnessed the assault, to contact the Dunedin Central Police station.
