Police have named the woman pedestrian killed in a crash with a car at the intersection of Dundas and Great King Streets in Dunedin last night.

She was 77-year-old Judith Mary Egerton, of Dunedin.

Police and St John staff were called to the scene about 6pm.

The road was closed for a time and reopened about 10pm.

Police extended their sympathies to her family and friends.

The Serious Crash Unit investigation is continuing.

Earlier, an 80-year-old woman was hit by a car at the intersection of North Rd and Crown St.

The incident occurred about 3.20pm, a police spokesman said.

The woman had serious injuries and was taken to Dunedin Hospital.

• A man was killed when the car he was driving and a truck collided on the Rakaia Bridge in Canterbury about 2.40pm yesterday. He  was  Ian Adrian Yee (48), of  Christchurch.
