Portobello Rd reopens after serious crash

A driver has been critically hurt after a two-car crash in Portobello Rd.

The crash happened between Broad Bay and Portobello in Dunedin this afternoon, closing the road for nearly four hours.

A police spokeswoman said they received a report about 3.50pm from St John about the crash, involving two utility vehicles, which also left another person with moderate injuries.

A witness said fire crews worked to free the driver of a white utility vehicle who had been trapped.

The person with moderate injuries was treated on the side of the road.

Motorists were asked to travel over Highcliff Rd following the crash.

Police advised at 7.45pm that Portobello Rd had reopened.
