Dunedin Horticultural Society show manager Neil Judd examines the winning entry in floral arts for children at the society’s autumn show at the St Kilda Bowling Club yesterday.

The piece, entitled Candle Light, was done by Ruby McLay.

Mr Judd said good crowds had turned up for the show over the weekend. Entries were a mixed bag — some categories were up from last year while others were down in number.

People had put in some real effort, he said.

Chrysanthemums had grown in popularity in recent years, starting with only a couple of entries but now nearing 30, he said.

The preserves and vegetables section was again popular, which had been consistent since Covid as people got back into their vegetable gardens.

Mr Judd hoped junior numbers would start to increase as membership of the society — the oldest of its kind in the country — aged.
