Proud moment as second stage of prison refurbishment completed

Ms Nicholls said the second stage of the restoration began in September 2020 and included replacing the roof, refurbishing the exterior, asphalting and installing exterior lights among other things.

Most of the work had been completed by March last year, but the replica gate pillars and short length of iron fence were installed this week. 

The goal was to repair and preserve the building as authentically as possible, she said.

The second stage of the project cost about $700,000  money being contributed from various community groups.

The trust was in discussions for the third stage of the project, which would be focused on the central courtyard, she said.
