Publicans call time on bar

Cableways owners Murray Galland and Dave Lamont will make their last call for drinks today before they put their feet up in retirement.

After 24 years of owning and operating the establishment, Mr Galland and Mr Lamont decided it was time to move on and do other things.

Mr Lamont said a loyal client base had kept them going through some pretty tough times.

"Covid turned out to be a bonus for the bottle store, but it wasn’t very good for the kitchen and bar because it was totally closed.

"But we got on the road and did deliveries all around town and did all right."

In their retirement, Mr Galland and Mr Lamont planned on getting some long overdue rest.

"Yeah, I’ll pretty much do nothing. I could say I’ll do things like gardening, but no-one will believe that."

Cableways would remain open under new ownership and Mr Lamont did not expect much to change.

"All the staff have stayed on so we’re hopeful that everyone will get the same good experience going into the future."

Mr Galland said they would return to the bar regularly as long as they were not barred from the place.

"We live local, so of course we’ll be coming back — it’s a meeting place for all our friends."

The new owners will take possession of the business tomorrow.
