Rush for Rhys Darby tickets

Who said Dunedin people were slow to support live acts? Only a handful of tickets are left for New Zealand comedian Rhys Darby's show at the Regent Theatre in Dunedin next month.

Tickets went on sale on Monday and most were sold in the first 24 hours.

About a dozen single tickets were left by lunchtime yesterday, but a Ticketek spokeswoman expected they would be sold by the end of the day.

"Generally, people in Dunedin are slow to book tickets. But these sold like hot cakes. There were queues of people out the door on Monday."

It's Rhys Darby Night 2009 was initially scheduled for Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Pukekohe, but the public response had been so strong he decided to put on extra shows in other centres.

Ticket sales for the B52s and the Proclaimers concert at the Edgar Centre on December 9 had been steady, but there were still plenty of tickets available, she said.
