Jon Ellison, 44, was last seen in Dalmore on March 12, wearing brown shorts and a charcoal hoodie.
Police knew Mr Ellison left his home in his car, and his car was subsequently found near Chingford Park last Monday.
His family have been out searching North Dunedin and putting up posters appealing for information.
While it was still unclear where Mr Ellison had been heading, Land search and rescue (LandSAR) were attempting to narrow down the search area.
A police spokesman said search crews had not seen any sign of Mr Ellison in the three areas they were searching yesterday.
He called for any members of the public who may have seen or heard from Mr Ellison, to contact police.
