The foundations are down and the build of the new Brighton Surf Life Saving Club is on target.

Rebuild committee convener Scott Weatherall said the foundations would be laid this week and businesses were being approached for financial support to fit out the surf club.

The old surf club was demolished in early January and building of the new club, worth about $500,000, started in late January.

The build was ''on target'' to be finished in July and ready for the next surf life-saving season.

The 167 bricks sold in the buy-a-brick programme would build a foyer wall.

The plan had been to build an outside wall with the bricks but the wall would be an interior wall because fewer had sold.

The surf club thanked the support of local contractors and project partner G J Gardners.

Rotary Club of Taieri president Bob Reid said the club donated $3000.

The donation came from a firewood fundraiser by Rabobank, CRT Real Estate and CRT staff and Taieri Rotary members.
