Dunedin mother Kaye Baldwin had to take her daughter, Jaala (20), along for the ride to claim a special competition prize yesterday.

A gleaming red $27,500 2012 Suzuki Swift Sport was waiting for her to drive away from the Roslyn New World supermarket after she won a national promotion.

"I had to bring my daughter along, so she could drive my old car home," Mrs Baldwin said.

Miss Baldwin, meanwhile, was eyeing up the family's existing car, a late-model Toyota RAV4.

"Hopefully, I can have that one now that Mum's got a new car. I've only got my restricted licence and can't drive a manual."

The competition ran at New World supermarkets nationwide between May 14 and June 10.

Entry was automatic for the 10,409 shoppers who bought any three Sanitarium products and used a Fly Buys card, Sanitarium South Island account manager John Parrett, of Christchurch, said.

Roslyn New World owner Chris Acklin said: "It's funny that the smallest New World in the South Island won it."
