Taxi shuttles still running

Taxi companies' shuttles can still drop and pick up pre-booked passengers at Dunedin International Airport, despite impending changes to the airport shuttle operating licence system.

Dunedin Taxis manager Simone Green said the company had received queries from customers concerned there would no longer be shuttle services to the airport.

"We are still running our designated shuttle service," she said.

From October 1, only Southern Taxis, a Dunedin-based company, and Super Shuttles, a national franchise could park at the designated rank immediately in front of the terminal building, after winning tenders with Dunedin International Airport.

At present, 30 shuttles owned by 12 companies operate at the airport.

Taxi companies which do not have a licence could drop people off and pick up pre-booked passengers at the northern end of the terminal.

Dunedin International Airport chief executive John McCall said there was nothing to stop passenger transport operators from dropping people off at the airport, but the airport licensed the picking up of people.

All operators would also have to meet their passengers inside the terminal as part of the changes, he said.
