Dr Busby, who has an MB ChB from the university, later completed specialist training in Cardiff, Wales.
She returned to Dunedin in 1987, initially working as an Otago University senior lecturer in medicine, and a consultant geriatrician and physician for the former Otago Area Health Board.
Now a full-time geriatrician and specialist in internal medicine at Dunedin Hospital, Dr Busby still undertakes some university clinical teaching.
The award was humbling, she said.
She was well aware good teaching required "a fantastic team effort" involving many other people.
