Thieves smash way in to Ravensbourne property

Thieves with a sweet tooth have stolen confectionery - K Bars and small chocolate miniatures - as well as a cash register from a Ravensbourne commercial premises.

Senior Sergeant Liz Waru, of Dunedin, said a glass pane in the front door was smashed to gain entry to the Ravensbourne Rd property. One of the thieves may have been injured, as blood was discovered inside.

The amount of money inside the cash register was not disclosed.

The theft occurred between 7.40pm on Monday and 9.15am on Tuesday.

More than $1000 of property was taken from a Forth St, Dunedin North, residence.

Household items had been stored in a bedroom over the summer and a tenant returned on March 15 to find a Sky TV decoder, clothing, a bed base and mattress and photographs missing, Snr Sgt Waru said.

The theft was reported to police on Tuesday.

Police are also warning car owners in Ravensbourne and Caversham to be vigilant as thefts from cars increase.

A locked and secured vehicle in Adderley Tce, Ravensbourne, was entered on Monday or Tuesday and a stereo, speakers and an amplifier taken.

The car was parked on the road outside the property, Snr Sgt Waru said.

Four cars were entered in Morrison St, Caversham, between 8pm on Monday and 8am on Tuesday.

Three cars belonged to the occupants of one property.

Money and identification was taken from one vehicle, but there was no indication anything had been taken from the others, she said.

‘‘There's obviously a wee bit of activity in Ravensbourne and Caversham,'' Snr Sgt Waru said.

‘‘We would like to reiterate people [should] lock their vehicles and put things away [out of sight].''
