Three arrests over series of offences

Three teens have been arrested in connection with a series of offences, including the theft of firearms, around the Mosgiel area.

Police said the 17-year-olds had been charged in the past fortnight with more than 20 offences since March.

The offences included burglary, theft, intentional damage and arson.

Clutha-Taieri area response manager Senior Sergeant Al Dickie confirmed recovered items included firearms stolen from a Gladstone Rd address.

He praised a Mosgiel resident for reporting suspicious activity, which resulted in a prompt response from Mosgiel police and a Dunedin dog handler.

''These offenders have shown how easy it is to access unlocked properties and cars around the town so the idea is to not make it easy for them.''

Despite the arrests, he reminded residents not to be complacent and to lock things up, and report any suspicious activity immediately.

''Prevention first is the key.''
