From walk-on parts to lead roles in productions, Nathaniel Moss has progressed up the stage ranks with no plans to stop.

The Kings High School pupil began taking speech and drama lessons when he was 5 years old, after his friend got him involved. He now performs regularly in Carol Krueger School of Speech and Drama productions in Dunedin.

Last year, he played the "quite fun" part of a "nasty, taunting character" in Was Minnie Dean That Bad?. After that, he took on the lead role in Robin Hood, which meant 10 weeks of rehearsals and six nights of performing.

"I like performing in front of people," Nathaniel said.

His most recent performance was in The Wahine Disaster when he played the "good guy", Brett Jackson.

Unfortunately, Nathaniel was not blessed with a good singing voice so he has avoided combined Kings and Queens High School musicals. But he is involved in drama at school: he is one of 20 pupils who learn how to improvise, perform and write plays.

He said he thrived on the "quite big" drama community in Dunedin and enjoyed "always seeing new faces".

Next year, Nathaniel hopes to be part of a Jack the Ripper production and one based on the Holocaust. In the future, he would like to attend the University of Otago to study drama.
