Nevertheless, parts of the Taieri will get one this weekend.
The Mosgiel Taieri Community Board is launching the Pride in our Place initiative, in collaboration with the Dunedin City Council and Keep Dunedin Beautiful, with the aim of encouraging residents to take care of their surroundings and be proud of the area they call home.
Board member and initiative co-ordinator Phillipa Bain said there were three key events in the programme — a waste minimisation and recycling workshop, a Tidy the Taieri Family Fun Day, and an ewaste collection day.
Tonight at 7 o’clock, there is a seminar for Taieri residents at Coronation Hall, in Mosgiel, aimed at showing people how to minimise their waste and maximise their recycling.
On Saturday, families are encouraged to gather at the Berwick pool car park, on the corner of Berwick Rd and Maungatua Rd, or the Mosgiel Memorial Playground, in Reid Ave, at 10am, to help tidy those areas of the Taieri.
Mrs Bain said there would be spot prizes, a barbecue and entertainment. Participants were asked to bring their own gardening gloves and hi-vis vests.
Cargill Enterprises and the Otago Disabled Citizens’ Society will hold an electronic waste collection service on Saturday morning.
"They will take unwanted electronic devices off your hands, for a small fee, at the Memorial Playground in Mosgiel between 10am and noon," she said.
"We hope the community really gets behind it. If it’s successful, it will become an annual event."
