Ms Barker, the Dunedin City Council business development adviser for the past seven years, will take up her new role on September 14.
She will be responsible for the trust's tourism enterprises, including the Royal Albatross Centre and Fletcher House.
''I'm back in my favourite place in the world, Otago Peninsula. [I'm] more at the coal face of involvement with my new role ... which is exciting,'' she said.
Ms Barker had a part-time role with the trust before working for the DCC.
