All a Dunedin mother wants is to be able to do the simple things with her daughter.

Lara Elliot is a solo mother living with muscular dystrophy who is trying to raise $30,000 to buy a wheelchair-accessible van so she can go places with her daughter.

She said she just wanted to be able to do normal parent things with her 7-year-old.

"I haven’t been able to get out with her to do tasks like go to the mall or go to The Warehouse, what everyone else can do with their kid."

Ms Elliot said she could not store her wheelchair in the car she currently owned and so could not get out of it and go anywhere.

"Going to the park, I have to park close by so I can watch her but she’s shy and she doesn’t really want to go herself."

She said she was living a very confined life within the four walls of her house.

Living with a disability was very stressful for her and she wanted to spend more time outside her house with her daughter.

"I just really want to live my life with my daughter before it’s too late.

"I feel she’s missing out on so much mum-and-daughter bonding, which is what every kid wants to do."

Ms Elliot’s condition was getting worse and she wanted to get a new van as soon as possible to make memories with her daughter so she had things to look back on.

With a new van, Ms Elliot said she would go travelling with her daughter and try to attend all the community events she could get to.

She said she had a Givealittle page for community members to donate to.
