Vandals set fire to school property

Middlemarch police are appealing for the public's help in tracking down offenders who set fire to property in the grounds of Strath Taieri School on Friday night.

Constable Helen Fincham-Putter, of Middlemarch, said she was contacted about 11.30pm on Friday after a couple noticed a small fire in the school grounds, in Swansea St.

By the time she arrived, the fire had damaged the boxing of the adventure playground.

The Middlemarch volunteer fire brigade was called to extinguish the fire.

Twelve bottles of beer had been strewn across the playground and smashed, a deck had been defaced with graffiti and the school's centennial gates damaged. sarah.harvey@odt.co.nz
