Children's entertainers the Wiggles again displayed their charm as live performers and also showed their star pulling power, attracting more than 2200 youngsters and family members to two shows in Dunedin yesterday.

Regent Theatre organisers said that about 1250 people attended the noon show and about 1000 went to the 3pm event.

Some people travelled from Central Otago to attend.

In April last year, the Australian-based group performed two sell-out shows at the Regent, after an absence of seven years.

Regent administration manager Andrea Ford was impressed by the continued drawing power of the Wiggles, given that some people were away from Dunedin over the long holiday weekend and unable to attend.

The Regent has about 1800 seats.

The show, with its circus elements, offered plenty of atmosphere, including a performance of Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star in half darkness, with electric lights shining brightly on a performer's guitar and the clothing of others on stage.

"I really enjoyed it," Claudia MacAskill said.

Mrs MacAskill, of Dunedin, who went along with husband Wayne, said the "fantastic" show had also proved a hit for their children Sariah (2) and Neko (4).

Angus Small, of Arrowtown, attended with his daughter Georgia (3) and his mother, Anne Gormack.

"I thought it was wonderful," Mrs Gormack said.

"It was a good mixture of old songs and new songs."

Her granddaughter had been greatly looking forward to the show and had also enjoyed it.

Mr Small said the show had also been of a good length to hold the attention of youngsters, which was "great".
