There are no plans to install a barrier on a crash-prone stretch of road near a popular surf beach.
Heyward Point Rd resident Rod Rust raised concerns after a van rolled off the road, near Whareakeake, on Tuesday.
He said crashes happened on that stretch of road often and he wanted a barrier put in place at a section about 3km along the road, past Purakaunui Rd.
Dunedin City Council transport group manager Jeanine Benson said the council undertook district-wide road safety risk assessments to prioritise where investment was made.
Heyward Point Rd was a low-volume road with an annual daily traffic count of about 40 vehicles.
"The DCC has no plans to install a barrier in the area but this situation will continue to be monitored and the road-safety risk assessments updated as required."
The road’s existing speed limit was also among those due to be reviewed once a new regulatory framework being introduced for speed management was in place nationally.
