Appointment announced to replace Hague

Department of Conservation operations director for the eastern South Island Nicola Toki has been appointed the new chief executive of Forest & Bird.

Ms Toki will begin in April and will succeed Kevin Hague, who is retiring after six years heading the conservation group.

Ms Toki has previously worked in conservation leadership roles in the agribusiness industry, the Predator Free New Zealand movement, as Doc’s threatened species ambassador, and has represented New Zealand at international biodiversity science and policy meetings.

Our journalists are your neighbours

We are the South's eyes and ears in crucial council meetings, at court hearings, on the sidelines of sporting events and on the frontline of breaking news.

As our region faces uncharted waters in the wake of a global pandemic, Otago Daily Times continues to bring you local stories that matter.

We employ local journalists and photographers to tell your stories, as other outlets cut local coverage in favour of stories told out of Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
