Auckland International Airport
The first and ground floors at the international terminal were evacuated about 10.20pm while the fire services checked out the source of the complaint, Auckland Airport communications manager Richard Llewellyn said tonight.
"Someone noted a smell of smoke and the fire service tried to identify that.
"After about 40 minutes the fire service deemed it safe for the public to re-enter," Mr Llewellyn told NZPA.
The airport would await a report from the fire service. Normal had resumed and everything was back on track, Mr Llewellyn said.
Flights had not been affected.
"Obviously, operations stopped for about 40 minutes. At that time of night there were not too many flights arriving or taking off."
